Not every short story is film material, and not every literary diamond waiting to be fashioned stands out as obvious source material when first read. This talk will explore the structures and devices that short films demand of their stories, and highlights the subtle but essential dramatic changes that adaptations demand. Lead by leading producer and script developer Paul Welsh.
Paul Welsh has written two shorts, The Harvest (2006) and The Lovers (2000) for BBC, and developed, produced and executive produced over 30.
In 2001, Paul established DigiCult, the award winning Scottish digital film project, and he also runs an independent production company – Edge City Films – developing and producing features with international talent and emerging British writer/directors.
ECF’s slate includes Skeletons (writer/director Nick Whitfield, co-production with Forward Films, completed 2009) and Lore (writer/director Cate Shortland, financing 2009) an adaptation based on Rachel Seifert’s booker nominee The Dark Room.
