About Version

Version is a bi-annual short film festival that specialises in innovative adaptations of short literary works, produced by the independent publishing sector in the UK. It commissions films and sets ‘short film challenges’ throughout the year, screening the work at special one-off events in Manchester and in conjunction with Latitude Festival.

Last Year’s Screening:

The 2010 VERSION CHALLENGE AWARD winners were:

FIRST: ‘Sometimes‘ by David Wharton
Based on a poem by Tony Walsh

2nd: ‘Jupiter‘ by Sally Fryer
Based on a poem by Diana Syder

3rd: ‘Soxy‘ by Glenn-emlyn Richards
Based on a poem by Sadie Fisher

The 2010 screening presented the year’s poetry and short story film adaptations from Comma Film, featuring new work by Ronald J. Wright, David Wharton, Rachel Laine, Sally Fry, Lisa Risbec, Lorraine Kashdan, Liam Dunlop, Glen Emlyn Richards, Charlotte Caetano and many others. Featuring the poetry of David Constantine, Milner Place, Diana Syder, Gaia Holmes, Tony Walsh, and others. It took place on Sat 27 Nov, at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester. And featured live readings from NABILA JAMEEL and TONY WALSH.

Although Version is a bi-annual festival, our filmmakers kept busy during 2010. During that year twelve new adaptations have been completed, including Lisa Risbec’s adaptation of the Sara Maitland’s story ‘Moss Witch’ (which premiered at Cannes earlier this year).
