About the Festival

With over 40 short films adapted from literary texts – including premieres of dozens of special commissions and exclusive screenings of internationally acclaimed adaptations – Version celebrates the process of transformation from page to screen.

Version is not just a platform for new films but a unique adaptation-only commissioning project. This, its first year, will showcase poetry-films by directors from across the country (commissioned in conjunction with Literature Northwest), as well as a host of new short story films including the Film4-funded ‘Five Miles Out’. Masterclasses and workshops will offer budding filmmakers hands-on advice on the process of transforming textual narratives into film, whilst networking sessions will enable crews to get together for future projects and put filmmakers in contact with writers. The two days’ activities will culminate in a premiere and party celebrating four short dramas specially funded and produced by the festival.

Story after story…

Version strives to re-assert the importance of story in the filmmaking process, offering young directors and animators a rare opportunity to develop their story-telling skills by working with existing, contemporary material.

To learn how to take part in next year’s productions, there are also two networking sessions:
Crew Networking Event, Fri, 2.30pm, Green Room
Meet the Author, Sat 11am, An Outlet

All talks and networking sessions are free.To book email ra.page@commapress.co.uk
